With a portfolio of 11,000 buildings - some 6.2 million m2 of land - Le Groupe La Poste is a major player in real estate at the heart of cities and regions.
As the leading company providing services with a local presence, La Poste is keen to capitalise on its property assets, in conjunction with local authorities, to meet the changing needs of towns and cities.
It owns a number of buildings which are icons of 1970s architecture, some vacant and some soon to be vacated, and is now launching a process of calls for projects to enhance these sites.
Following on from Cergy and Amiens (see press pack), attention now turns to Grenoble with the launch of the call for ‘70s projects dedicated to the iconic Hôtel des Postes.
Converting 1970s sites to meet the functional, aesthetic and energy needs of the 21st century.
Through its calls for “1970s” projects, Poste Immo aims to select innovative projects that are led and developed by groupings. The new uses these projects propose for the buildings must reflect their respective cities’ commitment to transformation. They must also be consistent with Le Groupe La Poste’s values, and those of the partners associated with the calls for projects. Other than this, the candidates have complete freedom, in terms of design and implementation, to put forward innovative solutions to construction, planning and energy issues.
Launched in collaboration with the city of Grenoble and Grenoble-Alpes Métropole, this call for projects was announced on 13 March 2019 at MIPIM, the international market for property professionals. The consultation begins on 29 March 2019 on https://patrimoineenmouvement.laposte.fr, with candidates’ bids scheduled for submission on 7 June 2019. Selection will involve two phases, with the winner to be announced in February 2020.
The architectural and urban development proposals submitted must meet the guidelines for development in the study conducted by the city on the Hoche Malraux sector, and must also harmonise with other nearby projects, while maintaining the activity of the post office.

Located at 11, Boulevard Maréchal Lyautey in Grenoble, and with a floor area of 15,666 m2, the Hôtel des Postes is a high-rise building built in 1967 by architect René Gagès. The project originally combined two entities, the Hôtel des Postes and the Centre de Chèques Postaux, or post office bank. It was constructed for the 1968 Winter Olympics, which took place in Grenoble, and replaced the former Hoche police barracks built in the late 19th century. Situated close to Grenoble city centre, the solidly built structure is in two parts: a U-shaped public access building (ERP) with four further storeys above its ground floor, and a high-rise building with 11 full storeys and three partial ones. The ground floor is common to both buildings.
