Carbon neutrality – The key figures

According to extrafinancial scoring agencies, La Poste is one of the world’s leading postal players in terms of CSR. Mindful of the environmental impact of its transport and delivery activity, the Group initiated a proactive policy many years ago to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fully offset its background emissions. The key figures.

Reducing its emissions

  • A 20% reduction in greenhouse gases. Le Groupe La Poste has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 20% since 2013. It is outlining a new plan for the year 2025 to reduce its emissions in line with the targets set by the Paris Agreement following COP21.

By using renewable energies

  • The 12,000 buildings (i.e. 10 million m2) managed by Poste Immo, the Group’s real estate subsidiary, supplied with electricity from exclusively renewable sources.

  • 48,000 m2 of photovoltaic panels producing 6 GWh annually on 46 postal industrial sites.

By favouring low-emission vehicles and training drivers

  • The world’s number one fleet of electric vehicles with 16,260 electric vehicles in circulation (24% of the fleet, excluding bicycles and trolleys) and 22,536 power-assisted bicycles.

  • 80,000 employees trained in eco-driving since 2007.

By recycling or reusing waste

  • 75% of inert site waste recovered in 2018 on the pilot sites. Poste Immo implements its prevention and recycling policy on all its sites and is testing the reuse of construction materials.

  • 85,000 tonnes of matter sent for recycling or reuse (office waste, undistributed printed materials, books, etc.) via the Recygo and Nouvelle Attitude subsidiary service offers.

  • 94% of waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) recovered in 2018.

Offsetting background emissions

  • 100% carbon neutral mail, parcel, express and digital solutions since 2012. La Banque Postale joined the initiative for all of its operating activities in 2018.

  • Europe’s number one voluntary carbon offsetting player with a 9% share of credits purchased at European level.

Financing the ecological transition

  • €500 M + €750 M. The Group issued a Green Bond worth €500 M to finance its energy transition. La Banque Postale issued a Green Bond worth €750 M in order to finance or refinance projects in the renewable energy sector (55% of projects are wind-based, 45% solar-based), mostly in France.

  • A comprehensive range of loans offered by La Banque Postale to facilitate home eco-renovation works.

Have CSR policy evaluated

Le Groupe La Poste has been rated by various international extrafinancial agencies: three general agencies (Vigeo Eiris, ISS-oekom, Sustainalytics), an agency specialised in supply chains (Ecovadis) and a leading agency specialised in carbon (CDP). All underline the quality of the Group’s CSR reporting with improved ratings at all agencies.

The Group’s climate policy has received special recognition from the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) which awarded it an A grade [see press release]. This makes the Group the only postal player in the world with an A grade.

Le Groupe La Poste has had an advanced Global Compact level since 2017 [see press release]. This level highlights its commitments’ alignment with the principles of the United Nations Global Compact and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
